The following activity groups meet on a regular basis (except in summer when the Club may be closed in areas for maintenance or event setup). Extended group descriptions are on each group’s respective web page.

BoogieTanz Kabaratt

Damenkreis (Ladies Circle)
This group meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon, unless otherwise announced and is primarily a social gathering of up to 40 ladies who have a lot of fun sharing stories, recipes, pictures, and keeping traditions going at the Club. Meetings are held mostly in German, but also in English, and all guests are welcome. Sometimes bus trips are offered for members and friends. For more information, contact Chair Dagmar Purves at 619-540-1095 or info@germanclubsandiego.org.

Germania Blaskapelle
The Germania Blaskapelle performs music that would typically be heard at Oktoberfest or at a German village band concert. As the newest subgroup of the German American Societies in San Diego, the band is recruiting musicians and individuals wishing to serve on the band’s leadership team. Rehearsals take place most Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Club. Musicians must be able to read music and have their own instruments. For more information, email GermaniaBlaskapelleSD@gmail.com.

German Theater Group
Wir machen Theater! [We’re creating theater!] This is a group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers whose mission is to bring quality German Theater to San Diego and neighboring areas. Founded in October 2016 by Astrid Ronke, the group has quickly attracted talented and creative folks who couldn’t wait to put their first play into production. For more information, contact Director Astrid Ronke at info@germantheatergroupsandiego.org

Karneval Season (German Mardi Gras)
The group meets the third Thursday of each month at 7:30, and weekly during the Karneval season (unless otherwise determined by the Karneval Committee). We celebrate the Rheinische Karneval in the German tradition. Called “Carnival” in Rio, and “Mardi Gras” in the United States – but all you need to know is that we celebrate a love for life and a willingness to let loose, have fun and frolic in full costume! The session – also known as Fifth Season – runs from Nov. 11 through Ash Wednesday. Click on the Event Info page and Group tab to learn more.

KinderTanzGruppe
This group of boys and girls meets weekly and is open to all children 5 years and older. The focus is on passing down German heritage through traditional folk dancing, interpretive dance and Karneval participation. We perform throughout the year, at our own Clubhouse as well as out in the community. Karneval performances takes us as far away as Las Vegas! For more information, contact gaskindertanzgruppe@gmail.com.

Oktoberfest
Every year the German American Societies of San Diego, Inc., hosts its traditional Oktoberfest event – typically the last weekend in September and the first weekend in October. Authentic German food such as bratwurst, ox-on-the-spit, potato salad, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, red cabbage and a variety of German pastries are served along with a fantastic selection of German beers and liquors while a band from Munich plays traditional music for the crowd. Folk dancing performances are featured, along with games and contests, vendor booths, a kid zone and so much more. Learn more on the event page: Oktoberfest 2024 – German American Societies San Diego (germanclubsandiego.org).

Schützenverein
The Schützenverein participates in 10-meter, Olympic style, competitive shooting with 0.177 caliber air rifles. We offer two membership levels: A competitive membership for those looking to compete against other members of our own group to determine the ’Scharfschütze’ or sharp shooter of the group; and an Auxiliary membership for those who like to shoot but do not want to compete in tournaments. Our group travels to other Schützenverein clubs such as Las Vegas and Anaheim to compete in a fun-filled 3-day tournament called Schützenfest. We have an open range night every Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for guests to come enjoy the range, the bar, and an inexpensive dinner. Follow the web page for details: St. Hubertus Schützenverein – German American Societies San Diego (germanclubsandiego.org).

Skat Players
The Skat Players meet most Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Club’s main hall. Skat (German pronunciation: [ˈskaːt]) is a 3-player trick-taking card game devised around 1810 in Altenburg in the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. It is the national game of Germany[1] and, along with Doppelkopf, it is the most popular card game in Germany and Silesia. It is considered one of the best and most interesting card games for 3 players. Contact Eddie Scheuermann 858-279-0729 for more information. On select Friday nights, free lessons are taught on how to play Skat – check out home page or follow us on Facebook to get the latest information.

ZZFC
ZZFC was founded by a small group of dads connected by their families, a love of soccer – or in German: Fussball – and a connection to Germany. As Fussball (players, dads, coaches and fans, this small group came together with one simple belief – that Fussball could create a stronger community and that community could create better Fussball. ZZFC is starting small but has big ambitions. The Club aims to bring together Fussball fans from around San Diego to play on the new turf field, watch the game and have passionate soccer debates over tasty food and beverages.
