Willkommen!

Welcome to the online home of the San Diego German American Society! We celebrate German culture and its many colorful traditions through a variety of activities, year-round. Seasonal events are open to people of all ages, interests and abilities and include occasions like Maifest, Oktoberfest, Karneval and a Christmas Market!

We also host a German Theater Group, KinderTanzGruppe (children’s dance group), Boogietanz Kabarrat (all-ages dance group), Damenkreis (ladies circle), Skat Club afternoons (German card game), a Sunday work team and volunteer opportunities, German language classes and so much more – offering a home away from home to our many members, friends and the community at large. Watch a football (American soccer) game on the big screen, kick off your heels at a News Year’s Party or Anniversary Gala, or meet the Schützen (competitive shooting) crew on Friday evenings.

Come as a member or a guest – there’s truly something for everyone at our Club, and we hope to share some Gemütlichkeit friendships with you.

Upcoming Events

MAIFEST IS COMING ON MAY 5!

Maifest – or Mayfest – is an annual German festival that celebrates the arrival of spring. It’s a time for families, friends, groups and full communities to come together and enjoy traditional German food, music and dancing.

Our Club event welcomes residents and visitors of all ages, interests and backgrounds with live music performed by Da Stube Buben and dances performed by the adult BoogieTanz Kabaratt and youth KinderTanzGruppe.

The event will run from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in our outdoor Biergarten (weather permitting) with a special spring selection of beer, a delicious assortment of food, vendor booths, youth activities and more. Entrance is just $5 per person or free for Club members.

Details are being planned now, but we are looking for volunteers. If you’re interested, please call the volunteer hotline: 619-663-8435. Learn more about volunteer opportunities.

FRIDAY NIGHT SKAT CARD GAMES

Skat is a three-player, trick-taking card game that dates back to around 1810 in Altenburg, Germany. Our Club has an under-group that meets regularly to play, and in an effort to share this tradition with new generations of Club members, we’ve set up fun, novice-level game nights on select Friday evenings. Join us to learn about the game and try your luck at winning a hand! Doors open at 6 p.m., and a low-cost meal is offered, along with the usual bar-fare. At 7 p.m., games will commence. Other Club activities are typically occurring on site, making the evening a fantastic place to wrap up the week!

April 2024 Skat Card Game Nights are the 5th, 12th and 19th.

To view Skat Card Game nights for the month, anytime, please call the Club at 619-442-6637 or visit our Facebook page. All members are welcome.

GERMAN HERITAGE NIGHT AT PETCO PARK

On June 20, the San Diego Padres are taking on the Milwaukee Brewers while our Club takes over section 229, rows 10 through 18 of Petco Park… it’s German Heritage Night! Come to the game and be a guest in our reserved section. Perks include a free, limited-edition German Heritage Celebration hat along with a complimentary, Padres-themed Hawaiian shirt. We’ve reserved 200 tickets so there’s plenty of room for extended family and friends, coworkers, neighbors, and that cute guy/gal at the local coffee shop.

This is a great public outreach opportunity in advance of Oktoberfest and other upcoming events, and with so many members on site, it’s bound to be a fun evening. We hope to see you there!
