Karneval Season starts Nov. 11 and runs until Ash Wednesday, but the Karneval Committee – a subgroup of the Club – works year-round to plan on a variety of events that celebrate this festive occasion. Just months after one season ends, the ideation for a new season begins and new members are recruited to be a part of the experience.

There are many ways get involved, from being a performer in the Prinzengarde (women’s) or Kindergarde (children’s) dance groups, to being selected as a part of the Prinzenpaar (Royal Court) – even crowned Prinz or Prinzessin! In January, the group fills a bus and travels to Las Vegas to attend the German American Mardi Gras Association Gala, which includes an evening of hilarious skits and parties, followed by a night of back-to-back performances featuring clubs from across the United States.

The Committee meets at the Club on Thursdays at 7:45 p.m. Annual membership is $30 for adults or $15 for students and includes a number of perks throughout the season.

Consider joining the group that makes good friends and great times a priority through events that celebrate German culture in Koln through traditional music, dance and costume, and, maybe most importantly, an excessive amount of fun.

Here’s a look at the event page with additional information about the traditions that make up this month’s long commitment.
